Day 103: Summer’s For Music – Deer Tick’s “The Rock”

Deer Tick’s John McCauley is probably the most prolific rock and roll voice you’ve never heard.  Lending his liquored up, buzz-sawed down voice to projects as straight ahead as Diamond Rugs or as creatively diverse as Middle Brother, McCauley has been searching for a way to break out of his limiting cult identity.  Though Deer Tick’s new album, Negativity, will most likely not provide that kind of popular access, the bands first single, “The Rock”, is a confidently over-the-top recovery from lost love.  This is rock and roll.
