Day Ninety-Eight: Summer’s for Music – Wavves’ “Afraid of Heights”
by Tom Noonan
It’s a little late to be writing on this album, so there’s not much left to say that hasn’t already been said about Nathan Williams’ matured (but not mature) follow up to the breakout King of the Beach. Since I have to say something, I think I’ll say that with “Afraid of Heights”, the album’s title track, Wavves has officially become the band everyone in the 90s thought Weezer would be, giving all those long-suffering Green Album disciples an escape from “Hash Pipe” purgatory and a chance to find peace. Thank God Nathan Williams looks nothing like Buddy Holly.
