Day Thirty-Two: This is Music

by Tom Noonan

Judd Apatow’s new vulgar and heartfelt meditation on middle-aging married people, This is 40, is a story told in music.  Like his previous film Funny People, it was met with a mixed critical reception, but it should connect on every level with true believers.  Or, at the very least, I can say that I completely related to the struggles of two fourty-year-old people because they hid their problems, and ultimately redeemed themselves, amongst the same lyrics that I spend time with on a regular basis.  Here are two outtakes from the film that range from emotionally disarming to outright actors-struggling-to-keep-a-straight-face hilarious.  Shout-out to Billy Joe Armstrong’s long road to sobriety.  Special shout-out to Norwegian Death Metal.
